Personally I’m not a big fan of fake doggy doo caches but I’ve yet to see one actually used as a hide here in New Zealand – and they’re very easy to recreate.
Examples sold overseas – and there are piles of them – cost US$4-6 (from NZ$7). However, you can make your own for a fraction of that price and in just minutes.
You will need:
- 1 x Fake Doggy Doo – About $2 from your local discount store or toy shop
- 1 x Plastic Container – 50 cents from The Plastic Box
- 1 x Blank Logsheet Superglue or Magnets
Step 1: Assemble the necessary components on a clean, dry work surface.
Step 2: Choose a container that fits the shape of your fake faeces and decide how best to attach it. The longer baguette forms are most suitable for magnets, thereby allowing easy removal of the container and log by subsequent finders; whereas the round shapes generally offer a flat base to which you can glue your hide. Another option for the latter would be to slice the item’s underbelly and insert a pico tube.
Step 3: Glue your container or magnets in place. Let dry overnight.
Step 4: Install a blank logsheet and prepare to scare the crap out of your fellow cachers. We recommend your local dog exercise area or canine-friendly park as a suitable location.
And as for a possible cache name? Shit Happens.
